Light Tent

Yes I know, it's been a loooong while. I'm being lazy again.

Anyway just bought a light tent and tried a shot of my daughter. It turned out great. I just need to iron the background for next shots.

Lunch @ Immigrant

Finally had the chance to go to Immigrant and they have the lunch special Wagyu Ribeye set for about $10++. Well, it's a good quality beef but it's too thin and unfilling even for lunch.

It's a good thing that we ordered pizza as well. However, the margherita is not so margherita after all. I expected lots of basil but you can actually count the number of basil they give (yes they are halved basil). And the dough is quite hard to chew.

I guess I won't be back to this place, at least for its pizza. But if someone can convince me to go back, I may try the regular non promo steak.

Test 1

I focused on the sharp thingy and took shots from both my D40 and D300s. When I cropped the picture you can see that D300s gives sharper, more focus, and better natural color.

Post 101 - New Camera

Finally decided to upgrade my camera to D300s. When I held the camera in the store (Body Only), I was confused why people are complaining about the weight all the time. It felt about the same as my D40 to me. However, after I got home, put the battery in, put the CF card in, and attached my 18-200mm lens, it became so much heavier.

This morning I compared it with my D40 which feels almost weightless now. Make me think twice whether to sell the D40 or not.

D300s is quite a complicated camera for me (aat least for now now) with its many buttons and lots of stuff in the menu. First thing I notice is the bigger LCD compared to D40 which is very nice. Then I tried taking pictures and AF is faster and quieter than D40. Well, I need to learn a lot more now but I feel that this camera is more solid.

Anyway, I will compare pictures later. Time to study the camera now.

Ippudo Singapore

A new ramen shop is open at the new Mandarin Gallery. It took us about 40 min to get into the shop...yup they have a long line too for ramen shop here. They have two types of ramen, white one and red one. The white one is regular tonkotsu ramen while the red one is tonkotsu ramen with added red miso on the soup. I ordered the red one with extra flavoured egg (Akamaru Tamago).

Well, it tastes good but I think the ramen shop near my place has better noodle and tastier tonkotsu soup.

New Year Eve Dinner

We decided to go to Angus Steak House for New Year Eve dinner. They only have one type of course with different choice of beef or seafood for the main course.

Appetizer grilled trout

Seafood Chowder

Salad with smoked duck and sundried tomato

Tenderloin Steak

Dessert is mango ice cream

Christmas 2009 Singapore

Yes, it's Singapore again. I bought a flash for this picture. Hope you guys like the color. I love it. Oh, and I took it without a tripod...well, this is the only good one out of more than 10 I took. The problem was my daughter moved a lot.

This picture makes me think whether I need to buy the $2000 camera or not.

Nikon 50mm f1.4G

Well, 18-200mm lens is a great all around lens. Unfortunately, it's not fast enough for kids. So I did some research and found that this 50mm lens is one of the best for portrait. It quadruples (did I write it correctly?) the ISO and gives a very sharp picture in a minimum light environment. And it's fast enough for my kid.

One thing is that it becomes a 75mm lens on my D40...but it's okay.

I finally can take a great portrait picture of my daughter.

Look at the bokeh...luving it!

Nikon 18-200mm DX

About a month ago, I traded my father's camera for this lens. It's a great all around zoom lens. Many people say that you only need one lens and this is it. I took quite a lot of pictures with this lens for a month already.

This is the latest picture I took this morning with this lens, the rain and wind took down my tree last night. I had to spend $75 labor fee to get it up again :(

Metering Preference

This morning when the sun was almost up, I took these two pictures. On the first shot, I metered the sky for the correct exposure. And I metered the house for the correct exposure. Both at f8. As you can see, they give different results. Which one do you like better?

Photograph Technique

I'm getting serious in learning photography in the last couple weeks. I found this technique in a book and tried it out on StarCom Shadow Spy. I took several shots and this is one of my best shots. As you can see, it looks like Shadow Spy is doing a warp.

How to do this:
You need to zoom to your subject, set your shutter speed at 1/4s or slower adjust your aperture to the correct exposure. And when you release your shutter speed, zoom out as fast as you can. In this shot I moved from 135mm to 70mm.

Medicom Kamen Rider Ichigo & Cyclone

When I saw this on preorder list, I got hooked right away. It's a good thing that I didn't have to wait long. And I got it at special price too.

Box is very big, almost as big as a 32" LCD TV. And the bike is very very detail with dirt and stuff.

One of the best Medicom Kamen Rider ever....Kamen Rider Forever!

Kinokawa Japanese Restaurant

Finally went to this so called Japanese restaurant Kinokawa. People said that they have the best sushi in town and I agree with them. Everything is so fresh and taste different. It's even better that the sushiya I went with my fellow JEMBAs in Tsukiji.

Of course the price is different, Omakase course cost about $150 per person here. I'll come back for sure, but maybe not in the near future, cho takai yo! (-w-)'

I didn't take much picture as the chef didn't look so happy when I took one picture. Chef's mood is important with this kind of course. Pictured are aburi-amaebi-with-kanimiso-and-tobiko sushi and dessert. Some sushi/sashimi I remember, ootoro, aburi wagyu, uni (very very sweet), hotate (even sweeter), hamachi (yum)...and much more.

Sheryl 2 Months Old

My baby Sheryl is 2 months old now. Some of her improvements are:
- She can give sounds other than crying like auuu, aguuu, or iiaaa.
- She can lift up her chest for a little while when we put her on her chest.
- She smiles back to anybody who smiles at her. She was smiling before I took the picture below, but I think she's curious about the camera)

I will try to give more updates on this blog.

My Daughter's 28 days

Time goes by and suddenly my daughter will be 2 months old next week. It's been a while since I log into my blog (too busy with baby Sheryl). Anyway, I will try to update with her 2 months old picture next week.
